About Masterwork
Construction-aware design. Predictable execution.
A design-build company built around preventing the problems that derail residential projects. Complete planning before construction. One accountable team throughout.
Our Philosophy
Design-first isn't a marketing phrase. It's how we work.
Most construction problems aren't construction problems. They're planning problems—discovered too late to fix affordably. Unclear scope leads to change orders. Rushed decisions lead to regret. Misaligned expectations lead to frustration on all sides.
Masterwork was built around preventing these problems. Every project begins with design—a thorough exploration of your goals, your space, and your budget before a single tool is picked up.
This approach takes more time upfront. It requires investment before construction begins. But it results in better outcomes: projects that stay on budget, finish on time, and actually deliver what you envisioned.
What We Value
Three principles that guide everything
Clarity
You know exactly what you're getting—scope, cost, timeline—before construction begins. No ambiguity means no unpleasant surprises when the invoice arrives.
Craftsmanship
Work that holds up over time, not just work that passes inspection. Every joint, finish, and detail built to last—because callbacks and repairs cost everyone.
Communication
You never wonder what's happening with your project. Regular updates, responsive answers, documented decisions. No silent gaps that breed anxiety.
Oregon-Based
Local expertise. Local accountability.
We live and work in Oregon. This isn't just where we do business—it's where we raise our families, where we know the neighborhoods, and where our reputation matters most.
That local presence translates to practical advantages for your project:
- We understand Pacific Northwest weather and build accordingly
- We know local permitting processes and code requirements
- We've built relationships with quality local subcontractors
- We're part of the communities where we work
Serving McMinnville, Newberg, the Willamette Valley, and select Oregon Coast communities.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Masterwork?
Masterwork is a residential design and specialty finishes studio based in Oregon. We focus on thoughtful design, disciplined execution, and refined surfaces - from custom home design to groutless wet rooms and architectural cement finishes.
Are you a licensed architect?
Masterwork operates as a residential design studio, not a licensed architectural firm. We specialize in custom residential design, construction documentation, and specialty finish systems, and we collaborate with licensed engineers and other required professionals to meet structural and code compliance requirements.
What areas do you serve?
We serve clients throughout Oregon, primarily in the Willamette Valley and surrounding communities. Project location and scope determine availability across our service area.
What types of projects are the best fit?
We're a strong fit for custom home design, high-detail remodels, groutless wet rooms, feature walls and fireplaces, and garage or shop epoxy systems. We work best with clients who value craftsmanship over speed and long-term quality over shortcuts.
What makes Masterwork different from other contractors or design firms?
We approach every project as a system — not just a surface or drawing set. That means substrate awareness, moisture control, waterproofing discipline, code-informed planning, and clean detailing. Our work is structured, not improvised.
Do you handle construction as well as design?
Design and surfaces are core services. Depending on scope, we collaborate with builders or operate as a specialty trade partner to ensure the finished result reflects the original design intent.
What is microcement and why do clients choose it?
Microcement is a thin, hand-applied cementitious system that creates a seamless, groutless finish. Clients choose it for its refined aesthetic, continuous surfaces, minimal transitions, and durable sealed performance - especially in wet rooms and statement spaces.
How durable are your surface systems?
When installed over properly prepared substrates and sealed correctly, our systems are highly durable. Durability depends on substrate preparation, installation discipline, and realistic use expectations. We discuss this clearly before installation.
How does your process begin?
Every project begins with a structured conversation. We review goals, budget range, timeline, site conditions, and overall fit before moving forward.
Do you offer free consultations?
We offer structured consultations designed to determine fit and define next steps. Depending on scope, some consultations may be paid and credited toward project work.
How far out are you booking?
Availability depends on project scope and current workload. We intentionally limit the number of active projects to maintain quality and attention to detail.
Why the name “Masterwork”?
The name reflects our belief that meaningful work is intentional, structured, and built with care — not rushed or improvised. It reflects craft, not volume.
See if we're the right fit.
The best way to find out is a conversation. Start with a design consultation and we'll both know quickly whether this is a good match.
